Here are the final revisions made to this Fall season's Playoff schedules:
1st:
Ladies finals have been changed to Friday, Dec 4th and the Ladies City Cup to Sunday Dec 6th at 3pm. Now, if the teams that actually make the playoffs, would rather play on Monday Nov 16th & Monday Nov 23rd instead of holding for almost 4 weeks I will give them my blessing to do so. The Ladies Matches do sometimes last longer than others, so I am giving this option. I don't like it that the teams have to hold for so long, but I also realize that it is not optimal to have to play on Monday Nights.

2nd:
The High Seed vs "B" match scheduled on Sun Nov 22 at 3pm at Sparks, has had to be changed due to the Dallas Cowboy Football game starting at 3pm because of their big screen and patrons. It is definitely a conflict. We changed out with Shuckers on the Thursday Night Mixed Division match. The Mixed match scheduled at Shuckers will now be PLAYED at Sparks, and the High Seed Match scheduled at Sparks will now be PLAYED at Shuckers.
Many factors go into preparing the playoff schedules. Venues have activities, sporting events, etc and all is taken into consideration with the effort being made to give our players the optimal atmosphere for Playoffs.

3rd:
The Mixed Match will remain on Thursday November 19th. The requested revision would conflict with the Holiday Tourney that Scooter is putting on at Volcanos like the one this past June. He did check with me, we worked together to establish that this tourney would not conflict with our schedule, so I will not change the Mixed Match to Saturday, delaying the Mixed City Cup until Dec 5th. We expect our venues to work with us, and I will return the same respect to them. I apologize that this match will end up on a week night. I have offered suggestions below on how to cut time off of a match, and also explained my thoughts on the playoff schedule procedures.
I read each of the posts & comments made on the site regarding changing the Fall Playoff Schedules. I liked the ideas offered how to shorten the matches by either eliminating an 801 game or playing the singles matches on 2 boards.

Sadly, not anyone came up with the easiest solution of all...Erik and I proposed this to our CPB on several occasions to drop the number of teams advancing to playoffs down to the top 2 teams from each division. It addes extra days especially when you have 2 divisions in one league. It was voted down and still remains that half the teams advance.

The summer has to be limited to only the top 2 teams from each division. We do not have the extra days available to
extend it to more teams. It worked well this past summer, was played effectively, and was without complaints.
Some food for thought...As with this idea, any of those ideas about eliminating games must be approved before CPB and amended in our By-Laws because it is a format change.

One last comment:
During FWDA Playoffs most of you have never ever played on a week night. It has happened so rarely, but was done so in the best interest of the Association as a whole. When it does occur, I would hope that each of you would work together, keep the matches moving, keep the practice darts to the maximum of 9 warm up darts and only 9 darts (3 turns), remind your players that they are going to be up next so they can take potty breaks, play the juke box, get their beverages, finish that phone call before they are called up. Another time cut is to prepare your line ups before arriving to the match, don't take the 15 minute break: If you need it, you need it! Filling out the 2nd sheet before the first sheet is done is a big time saver.

Realistically, some matches are long because they are battling competetively, but some are not ran efficiently. Limit the socializing between games, play the games immediately after the other one finishes. Keep them going, calling the next players up as you mark the win point. If people really made a conscience effort to be on top of it and stayed on their players, literally, most matches could be cut by a good 20 minutes to a half hour and some even more than that. But it is about having fun, there is alcohol involved, and most of the time, no one is on a critical time clock. So, the majority of the time it doesn't matter, but when you have to play a match on a week night try out these suggestions and hopefully, it won't be too terribly late when the match ends.

I don't mind playing on 2 boards, especially with 2 out of 3 singles. BUT there are those teams that do not want to play on 2 boards, they feel they can't pay attention to their team or provide the necessary support for each player when 2 games are going on at once. I understand, and you can not force a team to play the singles on 2 boards. If both teams agree, that's great, but if one team does not want to, then it is played on one board and only one board.

My point to all this, Please work together & get the match done and over with, don't drag them out on purpose, and show a little more compassion to our schedule. With this many teams & divisions, you are going to have to make some sacrifices and that some teams will scheduled to play occasionally: on a week night. It is not fair to the teams when any division has to wait for the others to finish, or have to wait for all the playoffs to finish so as not to have any overlapping matches.

We try hard & put forth our best effort to assure that the schedule is wihout conflicting matches, that our bars are ready and prepared for your playoff match, and we have made it a priority to resolve any scheduling conflicts within each bar that could possibly jeopardize the playoff environment that is needed and expected from each of you.

Many of you might even appreciate a week night match to not have to give up an entire weekend for dart playoffs. Try it, with an open mind, and really give it a fair chance.

Scheduling League and Playoffs is increasingly more and more difficult each season as it goes hand in hand with our many new players, the number of teams in each division, and also the many different format options that we offer to our players.

Thanks! I hope this helps! Check the dates and schedule accordingly in advance! Attached are the Revisions, Nov 2009 calendar with explaination of dates & events, an annual calendar for 2010 through 2011. Thanks, Again.

I don't understand why Ladies playoffs were changed. The feedback you got was that last season or the season before, playoffs were a month after league ended and they hated that. Now it seems to be a month later this season.

I understand that the schedule has been changed and it is a month later however I strongly encourage to talk to the other captain that you are playing to try to play earlier. After consideration and discussion about ladies playoffs and the length of time it takes to complete (such as at Black Gold when it went to 4am) that is why they went to a weekend. But again whomever you play talk to them them and see if you can get it played earlier. I do agree with you Maria I would not want to wait for 1 month.

I dont understand why The Ladies Playoffs again have to be changed to almost a month later. As Maria stated we were all peevd about it last year. Why on earth would you do it again. I understand that we have other Ladies that play in other leagues but that shouldnt have to effect the 6 Ladies teams by delaying these matches. You changed the schedules to make all the other leagues happy but again you throw the Ladies to the curb. If we are not gonna get the same respect then why have the Ladies league at all. I'm not trying to ruffle feathers but I am tired of the playoffs being changed EVERY SEASON after theyve been out 6 weeks.. And it shouldnt make a differene how long we take to play our matches, I believe we pay our dues just like everyone else.
