View Full Version : Why I voted no to by-law amendment

I know that most of you don't care that I voted against the amendment for the increase of our dues, but I wanted to state why I did voted no.

We have had the dues at $20.00 for a long time. Between then and now, we should have done some financial planning for our future and increased the dues to $25.00/members and $30.00/pubs. Now we are increasing the dues by $10.00 instead of $5.00 (which I think is better) for members and pubs. We should have raised our dues at an earlier time and then if it was still needed we could have raised our dues and it would have not been such a big jump. I think that in the economy that we are in now, it would have been better to increase dues by $5.00 and cut back on our expenditures.

I know that it is great getting plaques for 1st and 2nd place in every league, but that could have been cut back to only 1st place for example. I know that it is an feather in our cap to have a team sponsored by the FWDA but if we do not have the funds or the interest we should not sponsor a team
($250.00). If we do not generate enough people to come out to the Metroplex open we should not be involved in this tourney or we need to find a way to revamp it to make it more popular with all three associations and more economical so that we are all not wasting our money.

Cut backs are difficult and I believe that all of us know, in one way or another, that it needs to be done. But raising our dues by $10.00 is a big jump for some of the members and pubs.

Darts is the least expensive sport that I know of....saying that $30.00 a member should not be a hardship but we have people from all different economical situations and we need to remember that we want to retain and gain membership not kick someone while they are already down.

We cannot do anything to change this amendment since the CPB voted for this change but I am sure that some members were wondering why I voted against the change.

Have a great season and shoot well.

It was a bit of a jump, but if you look at it in terms of inflation rates we're back to where we have usually been. Looking at several US inflation rate calculators $20 in 1994 has the same buying power as $29.11 in 2009.

I will just have to not get 2 drinks or I will work for an extra 10 min. That will make up for the increase.

Some folks get to work two hours for that extra fee (after taxes).

$30 for an entire year of darts? If you play league all three seasons how many matches is that... 40? Even if you play each match in 2 hours that is 80 hours of entertainment for only $30. I can't think of anything else that even comes close to that... not to mention you get a plaque if you finish high enough. Heck, these days even going a single movie can cost you $30, and for the same price you can get 80+ hours of darts? Seems like $30 is a steal in my mind. I probably speak for myself, but I feel that even $50-$70 for an entire year would be reasonable when you think about all of the other perks that come along with it.

Two extra hours of work for an expected 80+ hours of play time that is a good exchange rate.

Some folks can hit their outs too, they don't get as much play time. :D

I do agree, it is a very good deal, even with the recent increase.

I will sit down after the weekend and give you all the spefics on how it breaks down and really what a deal it is to play in Ft. Worth compared to others.

I know that there was chat at CPB about Dallas and MDA, and it has nothing to do with what they do & why we increased our fees but I used them as comparison factor to show you what other local darters and pubs pay in those associations.

I will give a full run down on Monday or Tues. Thanks for the positive support and positive concerns. Without them we wouldn't be as good as we are! :D

Heard all of the breakdowns...just wanted to put my opinion out there since I was one of the two that voted against it.
