Hi All! I apologize for not posting this, it was done last Sunday, and with all the events from this past week it got lost in the pile! Sorry! Here it is...

Please Note: The A,B, and Masters first round are scheduled on Dec 7 which conflicts with the Holiday Classic, Our apologies, but with "A" finishing up the 12/5 it could not be prevented. (Or the Final City Cup would have to have been held 2 days before Christmas!) No way!

I would like to extend the option to "B" & "Masters" that you all can play on another day, IF and ONLY IF both Captains agree who are scheduled to Play, and I must receive a phone call from both Captains with confirmation to the agreed reschedule!

Sorry "A" there arent too many options, your season finishes Wed and Playoffs start Friday!

Sunday 12/9 Matches are scheduled to start at 3pm...the last event at the Holiday Classic is Ladies Doubles at 2:30, If anyone needs to change the time, again-I must hear from BOTH Captains!

The playoff schedule shows the Open 1st Round in the first column but the Highest and Lowest Seed which play the following week are listed at the bottom of that same column. Please Note all dates and times, venues, and the initials of your FWDA Board Member Official! Any questions or conflicts...Please call me! 817-846-1243:D

what was the thought process knowing that Black Gold had this scheduled
for quite sometime now. this will affect more than one person or team. can we at some point read a tournament schedule before a playoff schedule is created.

Would you rather be playing on Thanksgiving or 2 days before Christmas? That was the only other choices.

I know we can't make everyone happy, but why do we schedule playoffs on the weekends? I understand that people work during the week, and they are also on other leagues that play on various nights, but so does DDA and MDA, and they have their playoffs during the week. There are not just a few people who don't like this format. I have to say that I have heard just as many people complain about it, as I have from people who like it.
Maybe it's time to take a look and see what would work best.
Maybe we can start a couple of leagues a week or so before the rest so there isn't a conflict.
Just throwing ideas around.
As I said earlier, it's not just a few people who are complaining, it's a lot.

Just something to think about

I think main reason playoffs are on weekends is because we used to play best of 33 games (3 sheets). Now that we've changed to best of 22 it may warrant looking into changing it.

There may be a lot of folks not liking weekend matches, but I know of a bunch of folks who wouldn't like playing a close match of 22-23 games the night before work either. There are some who have problems with late league nights, and that's only 11 games.

If we were to start some leagues earlier so we could do playoffs on weeknights we would only be limited to the nights that league plays on. Many of our folks play on multiple leagues, especially the ones who make it to playoffs.

It all needs some investigating so we can improve it. (or screw it up worse depending on your view ;) )

I agree that the playoff should be held the same night that league has been played all season. Everyone picks the night that works best for them for the season so I'm sure it works for the playoffs also. If it's the same night then players schedules don't have to get rearranged and teams don't have to worry about playing short. MDA and DDA playoff schedules won't conflict with FWDA if playoffs are moved to the regular night of play because if you play FWDA Monday MDA Tuesday and DDA Thursday that would be the night you would have playoff's.
Plus if playoff's are held at a bar that has a tournamnet Fri, Sat or Sun then there are a ton of people and sometimes not enough boards.
Yes playing playoff's during the week makes for a very late night but it's only a couple of night a season.

For some leagues it might make the season longer too.

Looking at the Tuesday/wed open leagues. Right now we're playing the Sat following the last league night then Sunday, then another Saturday and Sunday for finals. Roughly a week and a half added to the regular season. If we did playoffs on their regular league nights that would add another 4 weeks. I didn't take into account when individual divisions finished though. It would probably be less, but it won't be less than playing two weekend rounds.

We also need to contend with the holidays if the seasons get longer. Damn near everyone has problems playing during holiday weeks. There was a bunch of complaining when we took rosters before the end of last season so the holidays would be open, or was that the season before?

It's going to take a bunch of coordination to get it all to work out.

One big problem you run into if you run it on the weeknights is MDA has playoffs on Monday AND Tuesday nights. So if someone from FWDA plays on Wednesday nights and Thursday nights and they are in the playoffs in MDA, You would be looking at four nights in a row of playoffs one or two weeks in a row.

I know that I wouldn't want to be playing that much in one week with four late nights. Then you get people that play in all 3 associations and it make it impossible to find a night to get any rest at all.

I agree that we need to take a look at it but our playoffs are set up this way to give people at least a little rest between playoff nights.

Here would be the schedule of someone in Masters playing in both MDA and FWDA going all the way to the city cups:

Friday Dec 7 playoffs for FWDA.
Sunday Dec 9 no play waiting for A and B champs to finish.
Monday Dec 10 play first round in MDA
Tuesday Dec 11 Play second round in MDA
Friday Dec 14 playoffs for FWDA against A or B champ
Sunday Dec 16 play FWDA city cup finals
Monday Dec 17 play third round of playoffs in MDA
Tuesday Dec 18 play MDA city cup finals

This only covers Masters, A and B.
If you add in Mixed league you start adding in Saturdays for Dec 8, 15 and 22.

I hate to say it but this is not unusual for some of our players. Ask the Night Hawks who won 3 back to back city cups in both leagues and I think some of them even played in Mixed in the playoffs. This doesn't even bring DDA into the picture.

If someone can come up with a way to get all of this done during a season taking into account Thanksgiving, Christmas, Labor Day, etc... I would love to hear it.

This is the exact schedule that the Night Hawks will face this season. As will several players on other teams as well. I don't really like playing the playoffs on the weekends but I have not been able to come up with another schedule that will work either. If someone can come up with one please let someone on the board know. I will be very happy if another schedule can be made to make things better.

Coy that was well said.

I like the Schedule the way it is. I get up at 5:00am and at work by 6:00am there is no way I could survive Playoffs during the week in MDA & FWDA. It is hard enough the way it is. I give up Family Time with my Wife and Three Childern to shoot on the weekends we just plan around it.

The same can be said about weekend tournaments If you sign up for League you know there is going to be a conflict just plan around it.
I for one think the FWDA Board does a Great Job trying to avoid conflict as much as possible like Coy said not only FWDA Matchs MDA and DDA.

Also the same could be said about the Dart Pubs and the way they Schedule Tournaments a little more planning to avoid conflicts would help. There is always Two sides.

I hope everyone has a Great Thanksgiving and is Safe during there Hoilday Travels.

Shoot Well

I didn't know that the FWDA was in place to cater to MDA and DDA. Fwda needs to do what is best for them and not for the other associations. Darters will have to make a choice, but that is what life is about. FWDA is not here to make everyone happy just the majority. By the way I don't play league just because I don't want to have to play playoffs on the weekends.
